Free Dove School

As refugees fleeing from South Sudan, long-time friends Mangoong Deng Aguek and Aguek Deng Achuil set off to start a new life in Egypt. Seeing the devastation back home and limited options they had available, they were determined to protect their children from the same fate through the power of education. Refugee children do not fit easily in their host country’s public schools due to discrimination. Mangoong and Aquek had a dream to open their own school in Cairo not only for the sake of their own children, but for the children of refugees in the Cairo area. In 2014, their dream came true. Although Free Dove was originally established as a safe educational space for African refugee children, today Free Dove offers every child regardless of background the opportunity to receive a quality private education in contrast to public schooling.
